Brainspotting Therapy in NYC
THERAPY IN NYC
Have you tried talk therapy but didn’t get the results you were hoping for?
Maybe it felt nice to have a place to share and vent, but after some short-term relief, your symptoms just seemed to pop-up again.
Despite doing all the “right” things, reading the latest self-help books, meditating, and perfecting your self-care - things still don’t feel right. It’s like there’s this constant pit of worry that always shows up no matter how much you do.
On some level, you know your reactions don’t always match the situation you’re in, yet you can’t help yourself from getting overwhelmed + triggered. You’ve tried different ways to manage, distracting yourself and staying busy, but it’s not working anymore and it’s getting in the way of your relationships and your life.
Brainspotting bypasses your thinking brain and helps you go deeper.
How does Brainspotting Therapy work?
Brainspotting uses visual focus to access and process unresolved experiences. During a session, specific "brainspots," or eye positions are explored which correspond to areas of emotional distress or trauma. This focused experience creates a gentle release of stuck emotions and helps the mind find clarity and movement around old issues.

During a typical Brainspotting session, we’ll start by checking on how you're feeling and what you'd like to focus on. Then, you'll get comfy in your seat, maybe close your eyes or keep them open, whatever feels right for you. Then, I’ll guide you to find a "brainspot," which is usually a specific point in your field of vision that is connected to unprocessed information.
Once you've found your brainspot, you'll hold your gaze and then we’ll begin to explore what's coming up for you emotionally or physically. Sometimes this involves just noticing sensations or thoughts as they arise, and other times it might involve gently moving your eyes or body to help process the feelings more deeply.
Throughout the session, we’ll be going at your own pace while you share whatever is coming up for you. I’ll be there to support you, offer insights, and help you navigate any intense emotions that may arise.
As the session comes to a close, you'll have a chance to reflect on your experience and discuss any insights or shifts you've noticed. Each session builds on the last, helping you gradually process and release whatever's been weighing you down so you can move forward with more clarity and resilience.

EMDR and Brainspotting are both deep, transformational approaches to healing and they can be use together to create beautiful, lasting results.
While they are similar in many ways, there are some key differences in how they access and help shift stucknese.
While EMDR primarily utilizes bilateral stimulation to process distressing memories, Brainspotting focuses on identifying and processing specific points of focus (brainspots) within the client's visual field. EMDR typically involves more active client engagement and tends to feel more structured, while Brainspotting allows for a more flexible and open therapeutic experience.
